Remus, Michigan-based equipment maker Bandit Industries Inc. has released a new hammermill grinder, the HM6420, designed and manufactured as an alternative solution for grinding applications that may contain contaminants.
Powered by a Caterpillar C32 1,200-horsepower engine, the 40-inch capacity grinder expands the Bandit line of horizontal grinders. A standard impact detection system is designed to limit damage if a contaminant becomes stuck inside the grinding chamber—if an impact event is detected, the grinder will idle down, open the gate, disengage the clutch and reverse the feed, according to the company.

At the heart of the HM6420 is a 50-inch-by-66-inch heavy-duty hammermill. Featuring a 1.75-inch drum skin custom formed from rolled plate, the mill is supported by a 7-inch main shaft constructed of ultrasonic-tested alloy steel. The mill is equipped with 20 carbide-infused hammer inserts, built to withstand the toughest materials and securely attached with a patent-pending quick-change pocket system, according to the company.
A heavy-duty slat-style infeed conveyor paired with a large-diameter feed wheel allow the HM6420 to grind large quantities of material efficiently and effectively, according to the release, and a proportional feed system allows operators to adjust the feed based on the material being processed to ensure maximum output and grinder efficiency.
The machine will begin production in the first quarter of 2024, and Bandit will showcase the HM6420 in February at the Compost Show in Daytona Beach, Florida. More information can be found here.
